It’s Your Life
A life skills project for the youth in all nine provinces 2009
From 2007 to 2010, ESST has played a critical role in carrying a message to the youth of South Africa on how to deal effectively and appropriately with the scourge of HIV and AIDS.
“Let Us Talk About You” was a targeted community-based intervention, which had as its focus the active promotion of abstinence and faithfulness as a means of HIV and AIDS prevention. We worked with youth dealing with HIV prevention and awareness.
In 2009, the youth project was conducted in all nine provinces. There was a different emphasis this time, as we dealt not just with the youth, but other sectors as well (Health and NGOs). We did not work in as widespread a manner, but used a more concentrated approach whereby a single community which had previously been involved, was revisited. The coordinator worked in one town per province, and not fifteen as before. A series of workshops was conducted with each sector (youth, health and NGOs) with the aim of holding a further workshop where they could work together. A final follow-up workshop was also conducted.
In doing this, we enhanced cooperation between the different identified sectors.
We wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to the National Department of Health, for without its generous funding, this would not have been possible. |
