Vusokoti is a considered response to South Africa’s crisis of persistent chronic poverty. It is unique in the sense that it wants people to get used to putting away “something” each month and, through such discipline and determination, to attain bigger and better things.
The Vusokoti Financial Empowerment Programme supports South Africans in their decision to change their financial future. It consists of savings, education, discounts and expert business support.
Members of the fund put away R200 per month for a minimum of six months. After six months, they are eligible to join the Vusokoti Enterprise Development Programme. This means they can obtain a 100% loan to start their own business. The programme assists applicants to prepare a business plan, and provides ongoing support and advice in making a success of that business.
The programme inculcates entrepreneurial thinking. Creativity and innovation are key, but most importantly, Vusokoti is about personal development and financial growth.
All human beings are born with vast potential, a potential which ought to be developed to its fullest. The socio-economic circumstances into which one is born, however, can have a determining effect on one’s life. Poverty inculcates poverty thinking and the reality becomes a syndrome, further eroding the individual’s ability to break the cycle. But poverty can be overcome. Vusokoti offers a comprehensive service to the poor that will enable them to embark on a journey of personal growth and financial independence. |
