ESST has partnered with local, provincial and national government to promote democracy in South Africa since 1994. Our work in this field includes: • Informing and mobilizing communities to partner with local government structures in socio-economic development through the Integrated Development Plan and Ward Committee structures. • Promoting awareness of, and access to, government development programmes to provide training and employment. This project is in its second phase, and is called, The People’s Contract for Faster and Shared Growth. It involves conducting community workshops, forming action groups linked to local government structures, and training people employed in the public and civil sector in government communication and local economic development to implement the People’s Contract project in their own constituencies. • Conducting various voter education campaigns in South Africa and in other countries on our continent. ESST’s voter education campaigns provide practical information on the details of elections, and also raises awareness about democracy at community level A list of our work in voter education to date: |
