Building a People's Contract for Growth and Development |
||||||||||||
A People’s Contract was developed by the Educational Support Services Trust (ESST) for government. It provides the reader with a bird’s eye view of the programmes in Construction, the Environment, Tourism, Care-giving and Social Work, and Agriculture to provide employment and skills training. It also provides information on programmes that assist and support those who are interested in starting their own enterprise or expanding their existing enterprise. Government programmes are aimed at the unemployed, particularly those who are historically disadvantaged, including women, youth and the disabled. Programmes that promote small, medium or micro-enterprises are for those who already own an enterprise or would like to start one. ESST conducted 45 end-user workshops in all nine provinces as a way of bringing the People’s Contract to communities. Workshops trained the end-users to take hold of the economic opportunities featured in this publication. The workshops consist not only of informing people about the contents of the publication, but also of training them to work in teams and developing an entrepreneurial mindset. We also conducted presentations with community stakeholders from government, and the civic and faith-based communities before the workshops as a means of involving broad-based partnership. |
