The Learning Adventure was the primary school programme through which ESST started its operations way back in 1986, and more than 20 000 pages of highly interactive material were developed up to 1998, when the programme was suspended.
ESST has taken upon itself the task of investing its own resources in the redevelopment and renewal of The Learning Adventure – Creating a World Fit for Children 0-100. This new-look Learning Adventure e-magazine and website is specifically designed to showcase South African children, adults and organisations actively engaged in shaping a positive future not only for themselves but for the world as a whole.
The Learning Adventure Programme is committed to fostering a culture of peaceful dialogue between South African children and children around the world and the African continent. We see the e-magazine and website as a vehicle for transporting the South African classroom to the world and the world back to the classroom, and in so doing bridging the digital divide between the so-called “info-rich” and “info-poor” in the quest to alleviate poverty in Africa.
As the world faces a future of global warming, and considering the devastating impact climate change is predicted to have on the African continent, it is more important than ever before to get critical, contemporary information to those who need it.
Gathering information and learning about other cultures played a significant role in changing South Africa from a country of separateness to one of unity and democracy. In the same way, we anticipate that by connecting the best of South Africa with the best in the world, it will be possible for us to find innovative strategies to create a world fit for all.
We also have an unwavering commitment to making the voices of South African children heard. The courage, survival and Ubuntu for which South Africa is well known, have the potential of influencing lives not only within our own borders, but abroad. Moreover, the Learning Adventure stands to become a life-line for those who have the determination and vision to change the future outcome of our world by identifying young talent and channelling it toward bursaries, scholarships and sponsorships.
Phase two is the development of existing material into mother-tongue readers, puzzles, activities and games that can be sold commercially as well as distributed to under-resourced schools throughout Africa. There are very few if any truly South African puzzles, games and activities commercially available on our shelves. A tremendous advantage is the fact that much of the material has already been translated into many South African languages. To Top
