The ESST Learning Adventure Programme provides each participating elementary school learner with a full 12-month subscription to either My New English Magazine or My New English Fun book (depending on their grade). Six issues per year (at approximately 2-month intervals) ensure that each participant is regularly provided with …

The Learning Adventure books are integrated with the official curriculum, and educators at participating schools are invited to become involved in ESST’s Educator Development Programme. This service to the teaching community was originally developed in the early 1990s with funding from USAID to help educators from previously disadvantaged groups improve their academic skills. Under the old system, teacher training colleges from traditionally black areas suffered severely through such factors as differential government funding structures and a lack of private bequests.

Over the past sixteen years ESST has helped hundreds of thousands of South Africa’s young people to escape from a trap of poverty and neglect. We did this by awakening in them a love of learning and discovery. Every single day, at home and at school, these children are exposed to new information and new ideas.

TARGET

Over the next three to five years we want to help at least one million South African elementary school learners to develop their abilities properly — and one day to take their rightful place in the world.
