Child Protection Week

Newcastle Local Municipality concluded the Child Protection Week on a very high and unique manner. Learners from various schools of Newcastle were given a chance to be the Exco members of the Newcastle council at the Newcastle Council Chambers. This of course gave the learners a big faith that they themselves will be one day very important and impactful leaders of our society who will be in positions to make policy and implement important decisions.

Speared by the Special Programmes Unit, mentors were brought in to motivate the learners. These included very impactful citizens of Newcastle who all emphasized the importance of knowing what you want and going after it regardless of any situation or conditions. Mentors included SABC's local weather man, Mr Sphesihle Kunene, the only cardiologist in the Northern KZN working in Madadeni Hospital Dr N. Gambushe, and a couple of other local influential young people who have made a difference in their lives by going after what they want.

We hope more of such sessions will be had which obviously had a huge confidence and moral boost to the young - By Sanele Ndlovu (Provincial Manager, KZN)
